Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located in the vicinity of the Maowu area, Guxue Region, Derong County, Sichuan Province. It was named by Li Zhonghai et al. in 1982 (see the "Stratigraphy and Paleontology of West Sichuan and East Tibet").


Lithology and Thickness

Limestone and mixed lithologies. Divisible into the Lower and Upper formations. The Lower formation being composed of light-grey and grey-black slate, limestone, metamorphosed basalt, metamorphosed sandstone and siliceous rocks, with a thickness of 1026 m. The Upper formation is composed of light-grey and grey-green limestone, bioclastic limestone, basic agglutinate tuffaceous breccia, slate and siliceous rocks, with a thickness of 1283 m.

Fossils

Lower formation yields Fusulinida represented by Pseudofusulina and Schwagerina. Upper formation has bioclastic limestone yielding Fusulinida represented by Parafusulina, Pseudofusulina, Cancellina, Schwagerina and Neoschwagerina.


Age 

Lower formation belongs to the Luodianian Stage of the Yangsingian Epoch = lower to middle Kungurian Stage (late Cisuralian Epoch; late-Early Permian)Upper formation bioclastic limestone belongs to the Qixia’an Subepoch of the Yangsingian Epoch = Kungurian Stage (late-Cisuralian Epoch; late-Early Permian); but Lexicon strat column indicates it continues to base-Wuchiapingian (conformable with Kawenggou Gr)
